How Much Do Dental Implants Cost in Colombia in 2026?

Every price below comes from a real written quote in Colombian pesos. Dollar conversions use 3,202.79 COP/USD, the official Banco de la República market rate on August 31, 2026. Pay attention to the peso amount: that is what the clinic actually bills, while the dollar cost adjusts with the exchange rate. Still, these numbers are my own written estimates. This is information, not medical advice; have a licensed Colombian dentist confirm any plan.

What Dental Implants Cost in Colombia (2026)

A single dental implant in Colombia runs $624 to $937 USD (COP 2,000,000 to COP 3,000,000) for the screw alone at the clinics I have been quoted — compared to $4,000 to $6,000 for the same implant in the United States. But the surprise is that most clinics quote only the screw. By the time you add the abutment, crown, bone graft, and sedation, a complete single tooth runs $1,200 to $1,800 all-in.

I am writing this during the week I started my own dental restoration in Colombia. I have three written quotes from clinics in Barranquilla and Pereira on my desk. So every number on this page comes directly from those treatment plans.

Why are Americans making this trip? A West Health-Gallup survey published in March 2026 found that 33 percent of Americans — roughly 82 million people — cut back on food or basic utilities to pay for healthcare in 2025. Nearly 9 percent postponed retirement because of medical costs. When a single US dental implant costs $4,000 to $6,000, round-trip flights and two weeks of Colombian hotels still leave thousands in net savings.

If you are evaluating relocation alongside medical care, the free Colombia Field Guide explains how healthcare fits into a move, and the Colombia medical tourism guide covers broader hospital systems.

My treatment plan and real costs

Here is what I am getting done, because a complete treatment plan provides essential context for individual line items.

My treatment at Centro Estético Odontológico in Pereira begins with a surgical extraction, bone graft, one implant, and a temporary crown on the upper right — alongside a root canal and temporary crown on a second tooth. That forms phase one. Phase two, four to six months later, involves two to four additional implants and final crowns.

3D dental tomography scan of the lower jaw taken at a Colombian imaging center

My own 3D dental tomography — the scan a Colombian implant dentist plans the case from. So any clinic placing implants without imaging like this is one to walk away from.

Initially, I completed my 3D dental tomography at Ortho E Studio in Pereira. Earlier this year, I received full diagnostic imaging and restoration quotes from Digident and Odontoteeth IPS in Barranquilla. Three written quotes across two cities show the exact pricing breakdown.

Real 2026 dental implant quotes in Colombia

These are itemized costs from three Colombian clinics in 2026. Prices are listed in Colombian pesos (COP) with USD conversions at 3,202.79 COP/USD.

Single implant (screw only)

ClinicPrice (COP)Price (USD)What is included
Odontoteeth IPS, Barranquilla2,000,000~$624Implant screw only (no abutment or crown)
Odontoteeth IPS (package of 4)1,700,000~$531Implant screw only (package discount)
Centro Estético, Pereira3,000,000~$937Extraction + bone graft + sedation included

The Pereira figure is higher because it bundles extraction, bone graft, and sedation into one line item. By comparison, Barranquilla quotes those procedures separately. Always evaluate bundled items rather than comparing single line items.

Panoramic x-ray80,000–120,000~$25–$37

Full treatment plan: 4 implants plus 5 crowns

Odontoteeth IPS in Barranquilla quoted 4 implants plus 5 crowns. Undiscounted: 17,500,000 COP (~$5,464 USD). Package discount: 14,875,000 COP (~$4,644 USD). Still, this total does not include extractions, bone grafts, or sedation. By comparison, equivalent work in the United States runs $20,000 to $30,000.

The components most quotes leave off. A clinic advertises "$600 per implant." That line item reflects only the titanium screw. You must add the abutment ($200–$300), the crown ($375–$593), bone grafting if needed ($120–$250 per site), sedation ($100–$200), tomography ($109), and follow-up visits. So a single tooth that appeared to cost $600 reaches $1,200 to $1,800 all-in. Always demand a complete, itemized written treatment plan before making travel arrangements.

Cost comparison: Colombia vs US

Colombia total includes $4,644 in dental work (package rate), $1,000 for two round-trip flights, $850 for lodging across two visits, and $400 for local transport and food.

Does the financial math make sense?

So for a multi-implant case, the math remains clear. Here is the itemized comparison including travel costs:

ItemColombia all-inUS equivalent
4 implants + 5 crowns (dental work)$4,644–$5,464$20,000–$30,000
Two round-trip flights from US$800–$1,200
Two weeks of hotels (both trips)$600–$1,500
Food and local transport$400–$800
Total all-in expense$6,444–$8,964$20,000–$30,000

Net savings range from $11,000 to $23,000. But for a single filling or routine cleaning, travel costs cancel the savings. For multiple implants or major restoration, traveling to Colombia delivers significant net savings.

The dental implant process step by step

Promotional dental tourism content often suggests a single one-week trip. Implants require time for osseointegration — bone fusing to titanium. Here is the actual multi-month timeline:

Modern dental clinic treatment room in Pinares, Pereira, Colombia

A treatment room in Pinares, Pereira, where phase one of my own restoration is being done. The equipment is the standard you would see in a US specialist office.

  1. Consultation and 3D imaging. Remote review of existing x-rays. On arrival, a 3D tomography is completed locally (COP 350,000 / ~$109). The dentist builds the final treatment plan from the new scan.
  2. Surgical phase. Extraction, bone graft placement, implant insertion, and temporary crown placement. Completed over a few days. If bone density is insufficient, grafting must occur months before implant insertion.
  3. Healing period (4 to 6 months). Osseointegration requires four to six months. You return home with a temporary crown while the bone fuses to the implant.
  4. Final restoration. Return trip to Colombia. The temporary crown is removed, the abutment is attached, and the permanent crown is placed.

Red flag: clinics offering a finished implant in one week. Implants placed on unhealed bone or loaded before osseointegration experience elevated failure rates. So clinics promising single-week completions compromise biological healing times to match travel itineraries. Implants may appear stable on departure, but fail within 6 to 18 months.

Which Colombian cities work best for dental work?

Modern dental office in Barranquilla, Colombia

A dental office in Barranquilla — one of the cities that quoted my restoration plan. So its direct US flights make it the logistically cleanest base.

Barranquilla. Direct flights to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, robust dental infrastructure, and pricing uninflated by heavy tourism. Digident provides 3D diagnostic scans; Odontoteeth IPS offers full restoration packages.

Pereira. Highly qualified specialists charging local rates rather than tourist premiums. Flights connect through Bogotá or Medellín.

Medellín. The highest concentration of English-speaking clinic staff. Prices run 10 to 20 percent higher than Pereira or Barranquilla for equivalent procedures.

Bogotá. Best for complex surgical cases requiring specialized medical support or extensive sinus lifts. Costs run higher than secondary cities.

Cartagena. A high concentration of tourist-facing offices. Prices often reflect location rather than superior care. Verify clinic credentials thoroughly before booking here. If you are still choosing a base, the which Colombian city quiz weighs cost, healthcare, and daily life together.

Local System Insights

Two local resources rare in English-language guides. First, Club de Leones in Barranquilla offers a cooperative membership (~COP 50,000/year or ~$16) that provides discounted dental and medical specialist access for longer stays. Second, AMI provides low-cost home-doctor visit coverage (~$10 USD/month) for post-operative care. The Colombia medical tourism guide details how these local systems operate, and the guide to healthcare in Colombia covers insurance and hospital access in full.

Veneers in Colombia

Reception desk at a Dentix dental clinic in Colombia

The reception desk at a Dentix clinic in Colombia. Veneers are offered at the same clinics that place implants.

Because I quote only verified written estimates from my own treatment plans, I do not list speculative per-veneer prices here. Veneer quotes follow the same pattern: headline per-tooth estimates frequently exclude diagnostic wax-ups, tooth preparation, and temporary veneers. Request a comprehensive written quote before booking. My full guide to veneers in Colombia covers the porcelain-versus-composite choice, the honest process, and how to vet a clinic.

Real risks and how to avoid them

Unaccredited clinics. Avoid small operations run out of residential conversions that lack proper imaging or specialist credentials. Require a verified physical address, in-house or partner 3D imaging, and local patient reviews — and confirm the clinic is listed in Colombia's official provider registry, REPS, before you book.

Tourist-zone markups. Clinics in El Poblado (Medellín) or Bocagrande (Cartagena) charge premium rates. Still, equivalent clinical quality is available in adjacent neighborhoods at lower cost.

Unquoted bone grafts. If a quote excludes bone grafting for a tooth missing for several months, expect an additional COP 500,000 to COP 1,000,000 ($156 to $312) per site.

Lack of follow-up coordination. Confirm any plan with your own dentist and doctors before you travel, and get their agreement to handle routine long-term maintenance on your return.

How the Colombian care model works

Home care visits. Similarly, nurses can perform post-operative wound care and medication administration at your lodging as standard practice.

Pharmacy administration. Licensed pharmacists administer prescribed injections (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories) directly at retail pharmacies for COP 5,000 to COP 10,000 ($1.50 to $3.00).

AMI coverage. Supplemental home-doctor plans (~$10 USD/month) send medical professionals to your home for post-op evaluations during extended stays.

Questions people ask about dental implants in Colombia

What did the clinics actually quote me per implant?

$624 to $937 per implant screw at the three clinics I was quoted. Complete procedure all-in — implant plus abutment plus crown plus any bone graft — runs $1,200 to $1,800 per tooth. By comparison, in the US the same complete procedure runs $4,000 to $6,500. So always ask for an itemized written quote; most Colombian clinics quote only the screw.

Is dental work in Colombia safe for Americans?

Yes, at top-tier clinics. Colombian dentists are licensed by the Ministry of Health and the best clinics use international-brand implants and materials, the same names you would see in a US office. The risk is at the bottom tier — garage clinics in residential conversions with inconsistent standards. Your outcome depends more on clinic selection than on the country. Verify the address, check Spanish-language reviews from Colombian patients, confirm the dentist professional registration, and always get a written treatment plan before committing.

How long does dental work in Colombia take?

Dental implants require at minimum two trips and 6 to 12 months total. Trip 1: consult, imaging, extraction, bone graft if needed, implant, temporary crown. Wait 4 to 6 months for osseointegration — bone fusing to the implant. Trip 2: final crown, additional implants if planned. Anyone promising a finished implant inside a single week is cutting osseointegration time, which significantly increases failure risk.

Which Colombian cities are best for dental work?

Barranquilla and Pereira offer a strong combination of quality and price. Barranquilla has strong infrastructure and direct US flights. Pereira charges local prices. Medellin has the most English-speaking staff but prices have risen. Bogota is best for complex specialist cases. Cartagena has the highest concentration of tourist-priced offices — verify carefully before booking there.

What do Colombian dental quotes leave off?

Most Colombian clinics quote only the implant screw and leave off the abutment, the crown, any graft, sedation, and follow-up. A $600 implant becomes $1,200 to $1,600 all-in once the complete procedure is itemized. Always ask for a written breakdown showing every component before agreeing to treatment.

Does it make financial sense to get dental work in Colombia?

For multiple implants or full-mouth restoration — yes, compellingly. A 4-implant, 5-crown case in Colombia all-in — dental work plus two trips plus hotels plus food — runs $6,444 to $8,964. By comparison, the same work in the US runs $20,000 to $30,000. So for one filling or a routine cleaning, the airfare alone sinks it.
